Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff have been teasing a comeback for a while. In October 2015, the duo had hinted at plans for a proper musical comeback, including a full-scale summer 2016 tour that never materialized. The rapper had also told Zane Lowe on Beats 1 radio that they had over 30 new songs recorded.
The two played a rare set Sunday at the Livewire Festival in Blackpool, England where apart from performing their past hits, also debuted a brand new song titled ‘Get Lit’ for the audience. “Let me see those lights,” Smith told the audience at the Tower Headland Arena while introducing the track. “We gon’ brighten up the darkness in this world.”
The song has a definite EDM feel to it with big bass drops, uptempo beat and loud synths. You can watch them premiere the new song in the fan captured footage below. Is this the sound you’re expecting from the two in 2017? The last time we heard Will Smith on a song was in October, 2015 when he hopped on a remix to Colombian band Bomba Estereo’s song ‘Fiesta’.
